Our Cabinet Painting and
Refinishing Process
This is not a brush and roll job. Every step in our process is designed to give you an exceptional result and we stand behind it with a two-year warranty.
Professional Spray Shop
We remove all cabinet doors, drawer fronts and hardware and transport them to our dedicated off-site spray shop. A controlled environment means a dramatically better finish and significantly less disruption to your kitchen. This is one of the biggest differences between Blue Valley Painting and most other cabinet painters in the region.
Painting Preparation
Every door and drawer front is thoroughly cleaned with a degreasing solution to remove all oils, residues and contaminants. Once clean, every surface is sanded to create the right profile for adhesion. Proper preparation is what makes the finish last.
Priming
We apply a high-build bonding primer specifically formulated for cabinet painting. For cabinets with pronounced wood grain including oak, we offer grain filling to give your newly painted cabinets a more updated modern look. Some customers prefer to keep the natural grain and that is completely fine too. Either way the primer coat is sanded smooth before painting begins.
Cabinet Door and Drawer Painting
Doors and drawer fronts are sprayed in the shop using premium water-based products, superior to lacquer in both finish quality and safety. We sand between every coat and clean before each application. The result is a smooth, factory-quality finish that rivals brand new cabinetry.
Painting the Cabinet Boxes On Site
While the doors and drawers are in the shop we prepare and paint the cabinet boxes and frames on site. The entire work area is sealed with plastic sheeting from floor to ceiling. We use HEPA-connected power sanders and vacuum and a HEPA air scrubber throughout. Everything is sprayed for a consistent finish that matches the doors perfectly.
Clean Up
We reinstall all doors, drawers and hardware. All masking, paper and plastic is removed and the entire area gets a final vacuum and wipe down. Your kitchen is fully functional and spotless when we leave.
Follow Up
We walk through the completed project with you before we consider the job done. Mark follows up personally after completion to make sure you are completely satisfied. Every cabinet project is backed by our two-year warranty. If anything needs attention after we leave, we come back and fix it at no charge.
Why Our Finish Rivals Brand New Factory Cabinets
We take cabinet doors to our off-site shop and finish them in a controlled environment. Multiple rounds of cleaning, priming, sanding and coating produce a surface that is smooth, durable and cleanable. Customers regularly tell us the result looks better than the original cabinets did when the kitchen was new.
We are not the biggest painting company in the North Okanagan. We are focused on being the best one to work with.
Low-VOC Water-Based Products. Safer for Your Home and Family.
Many cabinet painters use lacquers. Lacquers contain significantly higher levels of volatile organic compounds and can off-gas in your home for weeks. We use water-based products exclusively and actively ventilate paint fumes out of your home while we work. Better for your finish. Better for your family.

Frequently Asked Questions About Blue Valley Painting
What is the difference between cabinet painting and cabinet refinishing?
Cabinet painting applies a new colour coat to your existing cabinets. Cabinet refinishing involves a more thorough process including cleaning, sanding, priming, grain filling and multiple spray coats to achieve a factory-quality finish. At Blue Valley Painting every cabinet job follows the full refinishing process.
Will my kitchen be usable during the process?
Yes. Because we take doors and drawer fronts to our off-site shop your kitchen remains largely functional throughout. We install zipper doors on the work area so you still have access to your kitchen while keeping the space fully sealed during sanding and painting.
How durable is a painted cabinet finish?
When prepared and applied correctly using premium water-based products a painted cabinet finish is highly durable and cleanable. Our two-year warranty backs every cabinet job we complete.
Do you paint bathroom vanities?
Yes. We paint and refinish bathroom vanities, laundry room cabinetry and any other cabinetry in your home using the same process and products as our kitchen cabinet work.
Is cabinet painting worth it compared to replacing cabinets?
For most homeowners with functional layouts and solid cabinet boxes, painting and refinishing delivers a dramatic transformation at a fraction of the cost of new cabinetry. Many of our customers tell us their kitchen feels completely brand new.
